About

Church of Philadelphia was established in 1993 by Pastors Paul and Kumari Murugen, continuing their lifelong ministry that began in 1972 with the Apostolic Faith Mission. The church has grown from humble beginnings worshipping in school halls and under tents, to its current beautiful sanctuary.

Through the decades, we’ve remained committed to biblical foundations while adapting to meet the changing needs of our community. Our doors are open to all who seek spiritual growth, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to serve God and others.

Our Journey

Milestones that have shaped our church community through the years

1972

Ordination and Early Ministry

The pastoral journey of Pastors Paul and Kumari Murugen,began at the Mount Edgecombe church, where they were inducted on 1 December 1972 by Pastor CS Kantor. They served faithfully at Mount Edgecombe and during this period, they raised up many spiritual sons, many of whom are in full-time ministry.

1981

New Assembly at Redfern

On Easter Sunday, 1981, Pastors Paul and Kumarie were inducted into the Redfern Assembly by Pastor Kantor. They later relocated to Southbury Avenue in Unit 7, Phoenix, where they oversaw the construction of a remarkable, debt-free sanctuary—Phoenix Victory Centre.

1992

AFM Leadership & Transition

On 31 December, Pastor Paul resigned from AFM after 17 years on the Executive Council. He made history as the first Indian Moderator and was a co-founding member of Covenant Bible College.

1993

Church of Philadelphia Founded

On 3 January, The Church of Philadelphia was established at Kruger Place, Industrial Park, then moved to Westham Secondary School (1994-1995) and later worshipped under a tent at 44 Iverham Place until November 1996.

1996

Current Location

On 24 November, the church moved to its current location at Gillham and Strensham Roads. Construction began in February 1997, with the congregation moving in during 2002 as finishing touches were completed.

2023

New Leadership

On Easter Sunday, 9 April, Pastors Charlene and Daryn Andrew were ordained as associate pastors, continuing the legacy of faith and service established by its founders.
